I've been eagerly awaiting today since the kickoff of The Handmade Forum's Spa Day Series almost two weeks ago. If you've seen my Etsy shop, or know me in person, you know that I LOVE sterling silver and natural, earth-mined stones, and I am fascinated with the organic yet polished look of the two of them together. That said, it's no surprise that I obsess a bit over nearly every piece in Dix Cutler's Etsy Shop, Dix Sterling.
What makes her shop different?
Well, Dix takes the sterling and works it into textures that remind me of the those found in nature. Everything from a lake rippled by the wind, to the smooth but bubbled inside of an abalone shell, to a piece of ice formed on top of flowing water. She selects stones that accent and compliment the metal, improving the finished look instead of overpowering the sterling silver.
A few of my favorites:
I could go on and on about Dix Cutler and her lovely Etsy shop. Actually, I'd love to be a fly on the wall of her workspace while creates these pieces. I might have to settle for putting one or two of her items on my birthday wish list, but a girl can dream! It's been a genuine pleasure exploring her shop and learning a little about who she is as an artist and person, and I'm ever-so-glad that she saw that silver jewelry making flyer some fourteen years ago.
